When you book your wedding at Goodenough House we not only offer a range of inclusions but we can also put you in touch with our fantastic suppliers who offer their expertise and advice to help you plan your special day.

Many of our couples also ask what a typical wedding day looks like so we have created a handy example timeline to provide you with guidance.

Event planning

We understand the dedication and effort our couples invest in planning their dream wedding day.

That’s why our dedicated event planners are here to support you every step of the way.  From coordinating the logistics to ensuring a seamless execution, our team will work closely with you to bring your vision to life. Below you’ll find a helpful guide outlining everything from essential timings to the role of toastmasters!

What might your day look like?

Below is an example outline of what a wedding day may look like, from set-up through to carriages.

We hope this will act as a helpful guide when you work through the timings for your special day, which will require adjustment depending on where you are starting off your day, the time you book with the registrar, how you envision the format of your day and if you choose to add on a late license.

Your Goodenough House wedding planner will be able to support and advise on timelines. We will pull all your requirements together in an Event Note that will include not only your onsite timings but full information on all your logistics for the day, alongside your food and beverage selections. This helpful document will also have the most up-to-date financial total for your event, so there is always complete clarity over cost.

What we include in our fees

  • Up to 7 glass and chrome poser tables for standing receptions
  • Banqueting tables and chairs for dining
  • All required cutlery, crockery and glassware for the menu you select
  • White and black linen for the tables
  • Silver stands for your table names
  • Wooden easel for your table plan
  • Gong to call your guests through for the wedding breakfast
  • Silver cake knife
  • Tasting for clients who booking our wedding catering package (two options of each course for two people paired with your choice of wine)
  • One-night stay in a standard double room, for clients who book our wedding venue hire package (subject to availability)

The following in-house options are available for an additional fee:

PA system with one handheld microphone for speeches and background music

Remember to add the in-room PA system to your booking if you wish to play your wedding march or background music through your smart device.

We understand music can be a very personal journey so clients are welcome to source their own DJ, band or entertainment options.

We also have a number of very talented musicians within our residential postgraduate community. Not only are their rates incredibly reasonable but we waive the hire fee of our grand piano (available to Great Hall and Large Common Room clients) if you book one of our students as your pianist. You can hire our musicians for 1-3 hours, perfect for your wedding march or post-ceremony reception. Some couples even like to enjoy music whilst they dine. Simply let us know your musical preferences, from string quartet to harpist, classical to lounge music, and we will find the perfect match for you.


We partner with our local florist but if you prefer to source your own flowers this is also fine. Remember to allow enough time for their set-up which can greatly vary depending on the type of arrangements you order. You will also want confirm if the vases can be taken at the end of evening by your guests or if they require collection by your supplier the following day.


We can provide you with a cake knife for the cake cutting ceremony, then discreetly take the cake away to be sliced backstage after the crucial photo.


Having a toastmaster at a wedding brings a touch of refinement and organisation to the occasion, ensuring it unfolds seamlessly. Linen and glassware

Our fine dining and wedding packages come inclusive of standard crockery, glassware, and white linen, offering a timeless elegance to your event. Should you desire a more personalised touch, such as coloured linen or crystal cut glassware, simply discuss your preferences with our team, who will gladly assist you in upgrading your items to perfectly match your aesthetic vision. With our flexible options, you can ensure every detail reflects your unique style and enhances the ambiance of your celebration.


We offer complimentary use of our in-house furniture to all our clients, providing a hassle-free option for their wedding needs. For those who require additional items beyond our inventory, we partner with Yahire to offer a comprehensive selection of furniture options. This collaborative approach ensures that every couple can achieve their desired aesthetic and practical requirements for their wedding day.

We have the complete event hire solution, offering high volumes of functional furniture but also providing the nicer finishing touches.
